MES Open House

Making the move from elementary to high school can be quite the stressful situation, but many of Melbourne High School’s 7th grade students were able to make the transition a little easier.  MHS recently held an open house for incoming 7th graders and new students to give them a chance to meet their teachers, find their classes, and ask any questions they may have about their schedules.  “This year was a little different with the masks and the screenings at the door, but we recognized the need for our younger students and those who have moved into the area to have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the building and their teachers.  First days can be scary, and we wanted to make August 24th to go as smoothly as possible for our students,” building Principal Jim Carroll said. While the open house was restricted to 7th grade and new students, returning students can catch up with their teachers as well by viewing the virtual open house video on the school’s website

Melbourne Elementary teachers and staff also welcomed new students and kindergarten students at their open house.  "It was a great night. Teachers and staff were excited to see the students.  I was impressed with everyone's respectfulness to follow all the guidelines in place," building assistant principal Steven Chaney said.  We are looking forward to a great year and will see students in grades 1-12 on August 24.  Kindergarten students’ first day is August 26.

Bearkatz Academy hosted open house welcoming students and families recently.  Following protocol parents’ and students’ temperatures were checked before entering the building.  "It wasn't our usual open house, but it was still fabulous!  It was great seeing so many of our students and their families," preschool director Amanda Bledsoe said.

Teachers and staff have missed the students and are excited for them to return to campus.  They have been preparing for this unusual year with grace and patience, with the environment and guidance changing rapidly along the way; however, they have adjusted to prepare the best education while maintaining a safe, healthy environment.  There is nothing more important to us than the well-being of your child.
