Melbourne School District earns the distinction of a “Heart Safe School”.  Being a Heart Safe school means the school has an ample amount of AEDs on campus, which are properly spaced out with adequate signage.  The school created a cardiac emergency response team, a comprehensive formally written action plan, and drills to promote a heart safe environment for students, visitors and staff.

Staff members completed a mock drill on Monday to test their plans and gain the certification in partnership with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Vital Link, Project Adam, and the Melbourne Fire Department.

“When I can see staff members in our buildings know exactly what to do in a quick and efficient way to meet the needs of a student that has an emergency, a staff member, or a community member that’s coming to visit on campus, you can put a price tag on that,” said Tim Massey, Superintendent of Melbourne School District.
