Guitar

There’s a new sound reverberating from the band room at Melbourne High this year!  With the addition of a guitar class, students are strumming their six strings and producing poignant chords with one of the most favored musical instruments of all time.  Learning how to play the guitar can be found on many people’s bucket lists, those of both young and old, for many reasons.  It’s versatile, economical, and convenient (Just throw it over the shoulder and go!), and who wouldn’t want an instrument that produces such a wide range of tones?  That’s why it wasn’t hard to find students who were immediately interested in taking the class. Of course, everyone has their reason for picking up this classic instrument.  The guitar can often be transforming, and some students report that it helps them to relax.  Cody Detrick, a sophomore, says, “I took guitar class to branch out my hobby because I never fully explored it.  This was the way to go!”  Melbourne’s guitar class, taught by Mr. Steve Little, is a year-long, performance-based course that will provide students with an introductory experience in developing the fundamental skills in guitar.
